Job Description Summary

The Director - Design Transfer and Commercialization will be part of the Integrated Supply Chain team and is responsible for driving the execution of design transfer and commercialization (market launch) activities ensuring alignment with company goals and customer needs. This role involves strategic planning, cross-functional collaboration, and managing product changes within the product lifecycle. Additionally, is responsible for driving innovation, operational excellence and must be able to identify new opportunities for commercializing products and services that will meet the evolving needs of the market

He/she will be responsible for the development and successful execution of project plans in support of the ISC strategies including network optimization, cost-out initiatives, and capital investments.

I. General Function

Reporting to the Sr Director, Global ISC - Sustaining Engineering, he/she will work closely with platform peers in BD Excellence, CTW, Supply Chain, Quality, Regulatory, R&D, Finance, HR, Med Affairs, Marketing, GIE and commercial organizations.

The Director - Design Transfer and Commercialization will be part of the Integrated Supply Chain team and is responsible for driving the execution of design transfer and commercialization (market launch) activities ensuring alignment with company goals and customer needs.  This role involves strategic planning, cross-functional collaboration, and managing product changes within the product lifecycle. Additionally, is responsible for driving innovation, operational excellence and must be able to identify new opportunities for commercializing products and services that will meet the evolving needs of the market

He/she will be responsible for the development and successful execution of project plans in support of the ISC strategies including network optimization, cost-out initiatives, and capital investments.

II. Main Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

  • Define and drive the Design Transfer and Commercialization roadmap in alignment with business goals and market trends.

  • Identify and evaluate opportunities through business and customer insights streamlining the transfer and commercialization swim lane

Innovation Management:

  • Foster a culture of innovation and experimentation across the organization.

  • Lead ideation sessions and manage the product innovation pipeline.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with R&D, Marketing, Sales, Operations, and Finance to ensure successful product development and launch.

  • Oversee and lead direct reporting and cross-functional project teams from concept through commercialization.

Project Oversight:

  • Manage timelines, budgets, and resources for multiple concurrent product development initiatives.

  • Implement best practices in product lifecycle management and stage-gate processes.

  • Establish and maintain procedures to ensure that the device design—its components and configuration—is correctly translated into production specifications.

  • Create a production environment that ensures the product complies with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Customer Focus:

  • Ensure new products meet customer needs and deliver exceptional user experience.

  • Incorporate feedback loops from customers and stakeholders into the development process.

Performance Metrics:

  • Define KPIs and success metrics for new product initiatives.

  • Monitor and report on product performance post-launch.

IV. Required skills and knowledge:

Technical Area of Expertise:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other bachelor’s degree, MBA desirable.

  • 10+ years of experience in product development environment with strong focus in commercialization, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

  • Operational excellence, quality, regulatory, business acumen, and finance advanced knowledge in cost accounting and capital management. Knowledgeable in ERPs and production systems environment.

  • Strong technical expertise in project management and operations management with strong knowledge in Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma (GB/BB certification preferred).

  • Communication skills with all levels of the organization
