Recruiter tips
Your interview shouldn’t be daunting, it should be a way for you to get to know us and vice versa. To make sure things go as smoothly as possible, it’s best to be prepared. That means having any questions you might want to ask in the back of your mind – or written in a notebook – being familiar with the role, and knowing how our values could impact your journey with us.
When you walk into your interview, we want to get to know you. This isn’t just about your skills, but your personality, your passions and your ambitions for the future. But remember, it still needs to be relevant. What does your style of working say about you? How can your passions add value to the job? What challenges have you faced in your career? What are your strengths and weaknesses? Show us the real you and ask questions to get to know the real BD.
During the interview, we want to know about the impact that you have had in your previous roles. This means coming prepared with detailed, specific examples including numbers and a quick summary of the context to illustrate how well you performed. In an interview scenario when you are under pressure, it is not always easy to improvise, so make sure to prepare conveying your story clearly and concisely. It will also have the added benefit of boosting your confidence ahead of interviews as you are remembering your achievements!
Having evidence to support your experience, such as facts and figures, can give us a better picture of the part you could play at BD. It also gives you a chance to show that you can do the job and beyond.
Preparation is so important that we’re mentioning it again. Once you’ve gathered everything for the interview, review it, know it. Your strengths, achievements and skills, review them again and make sure you can apply each to the position you’ve applied for. Preparation and research always goes down well with future employers.

We’re on Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and Twitter. You might find it useful to look at our Indeed and Glassdoor pages. This will tell you what other people think of us. Together, all of this information will build your own personal picture of what we’re like and how to approach your interview with us.
We want to get to know you, your skills and competencies. Our questions will be about your experience, who you are as a person and what you can bring to BD. Depending on the role, we may ask specific questions relating to projects you’ve worked on in the past and competencies you developed through your career. We suggest that you prepare for the questions you think we may ask, as well as preparing questions you want to ask us about the role too.
We want to know the real you. Who you are and what you’re capable of. This will help us see where and how you might be a good fit for us.
Referring to the job description on our website will help you to see what kind of skills and behaviours you need for the role. As a collaborative and results-driven business, there are some skills that you’ll need to be able to thrive within our global company – from communication and organization skills to determination and resilience. We’ll be looking for examples of moments when you have used these skills as well as more role-specific ones. Whichever scenario you choose, focus on the part you played. How did you know what to do? What was the outcome? Paint us a picture of how you think and talk specifically about what you did e.g. “I spoke to lots of different individuals” not “We spoke to…”.
We’re looking for the best fit for the right role. This means discussing and understanding your wants and needs compared to the needs of the role you’re applying for. It means identifying your potential to grow within BD. And, it means knowing your thoughts on the future and the part you’ll play in our company.
Absolutely, we encourage it. Your interview is an opportunity for you to learn about the role and understand which areas you would like to explore further. Prepare questions ahead of your interview but also ensure you ask questions based on the discussion with your interviewer, so you really understand the role and BD.

COVID-19 Interview Protocols
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, BD has focused on the safety of our associates in BD work sites and in the field as a top priority. We have created guidelines and protocols focused on ensuring that BD associates, contingent workers, and any visitors to a BD site, follow the most up to-date guidance from the leading government health experts (e.g., US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or “CDC”) as it relates to the use of PPE, social distancing, restrictions on meeting and room capacities. We believe these measures will help to prevent the spread of COVID-19, help keep our associates, contingent workers, and visitors safe and ensure business continuity.
- Please do not come to a BD site if you are showing symptoms of the COVID-19. Let your recruiter know as soon as it is possible.
- If planning to visit a BD facility, visitors should be able to verify that they have either been fully vaccinated* or received a negative COVID-19 test result (from a PCR or Antigen test [i.e., BD Veritor, or similar]) within 3 business days preceding the visit. All visitors must wear a face mask during their time on the BD site. Verification of vaccination status can be made using a vaccination card, a photo of the card or a through a doctor’s note. (*Fully vaccinated means at least two weeks have passed since your second dose of a two-dose vaccine or since the single dose of a single-dose vaccine.)
- Candidates who are attending a site for in-person interviews should follow the site’s visitor guidelines and safety protocols, which include the visitor registration process, required visitor screenings before entry, etc. Requirements vary by site/by location in accordance with the local/state regulations. Your recruiter or hiring manager will advise you on the requirements for the intended visiting location.
- For those BD sites subject to the Executive Order applicable to federal contractors, all individuals who are onsite (regardless of vaccination status) must wear a mask. Prior to President Biden’s Executive Order, BD’s policy allowed associates who worked at a site with a certain vaccination rate + low community prevalence (basically green states) to remove masks – that is no longer permissible given federal law now requires individuals to wear masks at all times except if an individual is in an office with a closed door and walls (floor to ceiling). If this changes, sites will be updated.
Before entering a BD site, all visitors are required to complete a COVID-19 syndromic survey based on principles from the CDC. The survey asks questions related to potential coronavirus exposure and symptoms to help ensure anyone who may have been exposed to the virus is prevented from inadvertently exposing others while visiting a BD site.
Currently, this screening may take the form of verbal questioning, a self-review of screening questions (see below and refer to the Visitor Registration Card in Attachment B) or an online survey which results in a QR code. Access to the online survey will be provided at the site. The green QR code means the visitor is cleared to enter a BD facility. A red QR code means they will not be allowed access to the site and you should contact your recruiter or hiring manager.
Vaccination status is not considered a medical inquiry and is permissible to be requested from candidates prior to coming on site.
We understand there may be some concerns with in-person interviews. As such, in accordance with our Workplace Accommodation policy, we are offering accommodations (e.g., virtual interview) as needed. Please let your recruiter or hiring manager know.
As an EOE, our managers will base their hiring decisions on objective criteria; a candidate’s willingness or unwillingness to come in for an in -person interview should not be a factor in the hiring process.
Employment at BD is contingent upon the Company’s receipt of sufficient proof that you are or will be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Consistent with BD’s Workplace Accommodations Policy, requests for accommodation will be considered pursuant to applicable law.
* Fully vaccinated means at least two weeks have passed since your second dose of a two-dose vaccine or since the single dose of a single-dose vaccine.
