As the communications leader for the Urology & Critical Care (UCC) business unit of BD, the Associate Director, UCC Communications is responsible for developing and implementing internal and external communication strategies that drive business growth and protect the company’s reputation. This is a critical role that is responsible for increasing employee engagement, driving communication for key change initiatives, align BD UCC employees with BD’s overall purpose, strategy and culture, as well as support external public relations efforts and social media strategy. This position will work closely with UCC leadership and the HR, Corporate Communications, and Social Investing (HRSCI) teams. This role solid line reports to Corporate Communications with a dotted line to the VP of HR at UCC and has one direct report that supports graphic design for all of the platforms within UCC.Associates must work on site Monday through Thursday in our Covington, GA office. Associates may work at home on Friday.

Primary Responsibilities
Public Relations
- Lead community relations and engagement activities in partnership with local leadership and community investment partners and amplify storytelling around our BD Hometowns initiatives.
- Align efforts with UCC Marketing teams and Corporate Communications on customer-focused PR opportunities in both trade and consumer media that support product sales and marketing strategies.
- Work with corporate communications to manage external agency(s.)
- Act as UCC lead for issues management and crisis communication, working closely with the BD Corporate Communications team.
- Develop, manage and implement UCC organic social media in support of BD and UCC strategy and in line with the overarching BD Social Media approach to champion brand awareness, associate and customer engagement and advocacy.
- Encourage use of social media tools to help drive employee advocacy, in coordination with Corporate social media Team.
Executive Team Communication and Change Management
- Act as a consultant and strategic thought partner to the business president and leadership team to develop, manage, execute and champion business-wide internal communication and change management strategies and tactics that drive associate engagement through improved awareness and understanding of business priorities and key initiatives.
- Enable and coach UCC President and the UCC Management Board as needed to ensure content aligns to high standards of excellence and effectiveness of delivery, including speaking engagements, external and internal presentations, etc.
- Work with the UCC Management Board and UCC HR to support development and delivery of communication efforts that further activate and reinforce cultural aspirations; use analytics to understand and drive organizational regarding change transformation.
- Develop and maintain ongoing and innovative management of effective communication vehicles (e.g. Intranet, Town Halls, and other channels as appropriate.)
- Develop and implement external thought leadership strategy for UCC President and select UCC leaders.
Internal Communication, Associate Engagement and Advocacy
- Research, write, edit and publish content for communication vehicles including intranet, town halls, video scripts, emails, presentations and others.
- Manage sensitive organizational and transformation initiatives in collaboration with the business president and leadership team.
- Support business and cultural integration efforts for mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, with Corporate Communication team.
- Support communication and engagement in Inclusion & Diversity initiatives and events in alignment and partnership with UCC HR.
- Establish mechanisms for monitoring and measuring the value, impact and outcome of communication and change management initiatives, and proactively adjust approach as needed based on metrics.
About You:
- Bachelor’s Degree required – preferably in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Business or related field.
- Minimum 10 years professional communications experience required, with experience working on transformation initiatives – communicating change and bringing people along a change journey.
- Experience in external communications/public relations.
- Experience in social media, web and other digital communication technologies and tools.
- Experience in health care industry is highly preferred.
- Strategic and proactive problem solver with ability to “see the big picture” and connect the dots across a matrixed organization.
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills with strong editing capabilities; expertise in AP Style writing highly preferred.
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), Adobe, PR Newswire, Media Monitoring Services, LinkedIn.
- Willing to travel up to 30%.
