Job Description Summary

The Shipping Associate III will coordinate both domestic and international shipments. Prepare documentation per country and standard carrier requirements. The associate must understand labelling requirements per material type with a basic understanding of dangerous goods. Able to review associates processing of orders for both domestic and international customers while communicating with international affiliates as required. The associate must be able to utilize the ERP system (SAP) to generate shipment documentation while meeting daily cut-off times for carrier pick-ups. Will keep track of shipment supplies and notify department management when ordering is required. The Shipping Associate III will generate cycle counts and clear counts as necessary, communicating with department management as required.

Responsibilities

• Sorts customer orders properly, picks products from inventory locations, verifies other associate product pulls, and prepares goods for final shipment in accordance to product temperature shipping requirements, as instructed.

• Packs orders requiring dry ice refrigerant as directed.

• Pack and process Hazardous Materials orders as directed per BD Biosciences Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) policies.

• Process daily outbound customer orders using automated carrier or manual shipping systems.

• Replenishes daily, consumable shipping supplies, copier paper, foam boxes, and other consumable supplies as assigned in their work environments such as workstations, cold rooms, or warehouses etc.

• Manages consumable inventories and communicates shortages.

• Ability to work in cold temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit for extended periods of time.

• Prepares and maintains records of merchandise shipped such as Transfer Orders, Shipping Letters of Instructions, Export Declarations, etc.

• Communicate with international affiliates as required.

• Maintains shipping schedule per the calendar.

• Process and deliver materials to appropriate personnel.

• Creates cycle counts and is responsible for maintaining inventory accuracy within company set goals.

• Maintain component inventories and integrity of paper and electronic records without direct supervision.

• Notifies Supervisor of damaged or mixed materials.

• Participates in required training on regulatory issues affecting own area of work and brings regulatory compliance questions/issues to the attention of management.

• Prepares shipping documentation for domestic and international shipments as directed.

• Ensures shipments meet all country/carrier regulations under IATA or other agencies as required

• Communicates daily progress and notifies problem situations to the Team Lead or Supervisor in a timely manner. 

• Maintains shipping and warehouse areas in a clean and orderly manner.

• May be required to operate a forklift and/or Company vehicle as directed.

• Required to maintain security programs in place for shipment processing

• Provides accurate, timely, and courteous service to all customers.

• Follows BD Biosciences Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) policies and procedures. Takes responsibility for safety in immediate work area. Participates in EH&S programs. Notifies supervisors of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment.

• Performs other related duties and assignments as designated by Supervisor.

Education and Experience:

• Highschool Diploma and 4-5 years experience in materials distribution (shipping/receiving/inventory control) or equivalent combination of related education and experience.

• IATA and DOT regulation knowledge preferred

• Shipment processing for international and domestic carriers preferred

• Knowledge/Experience in Cold Chain shipping preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Must have good inter-personal and communication skills

• Ability to utilize Microsoft systems such as Excel, Word, Outlook and other software packages. 

• Strong attention to detail

• Valid driver's license and good driving record required.

Work Environment:

Work environment encompassing warehouse facilities, including cold storage area.
