Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Medical Affairs, Medical Safety & Writing, this role supports medical communications via advertising and promotion/educational content review to ensure collateral submitted for medical review has been appropriately substantiated and meets requirements. Role is 100% remote.

Job Responsibilities:(Primary Duties, Roles, and/or Authorities)

  • Conducts initial assessment of material submitted by commercial and physician training teams in Veeva Vault prior to sending for medical review. Initial assessment will verify that the needed support has been provided for the medical reviewer to evaluate materials.

  • Reviews a breadth of material, including promotional, sales training, patient education, physician training, HEOR, and scientific exchange in multiple formats, including social media posts, videos and narration scripts, Powerpoint decks, clinical data summaries, brochures, and conference materials.

  • Collaborates with teams outside of Veeva Vault to streamline the review and approval process.

  • Ensures collateral is appropriately categorized as promotional, disease awareness, HEOR, or scientific exchange and reviewed in accordance with company guidelines on the correct material type.

  • Ensures claim substantiation is provided in alignment with company guidelines and ensures that links to supporting reference material are clear and that anchors are in the appropriate section(s).

  • Communicates clear instructions to the author of the material regarding changes needed to make material suitable for review and approval, including suggesting alternate wording when appropriate.

  • Reviews material submitted for approval after medical (MD) review to ensure that all comments have been addressed correctly and either marks them resolved, communicates with team regarding further changes required, or collaborates with medical reviewer to facilitate resolution as needed.

  • Completes approval by providing an approval verdict of approved with changes, approved, or not approved.

  • Maintains awareness of BD brand standards; identifies and notes any obvious errors with grammar, spelling, and brand compliance. Follows company guidance on appropriate use of trademarks.

  • Ensures citations are appropriate and that material is quoted or paraphrased in a manner that avoids plagiarism.

  • Reviews material across a range of disease states, including peripheral vascular disease, interventional oncology, and end-stage kidney disease.

  • Ensures that documents are reviewed on schedule as per project timelines and workload demands.

  • Attends weekly and ad hoc MLR review meetings virtually.

  • Maintains compliance with company policies for associates, including completing all required training and human resources documents on time.

  • Maintains professional, collegial, and supportive relationships with other BD associates.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or communication field required.

  • Two years’ experience in health communications, specifically with writing and/or editing and medical terminology, required.

  • Experience in medical device industry and with disease states including peripheral vascular disease, interventional oncology, and end-stage kidney disease is preferred.

  • Experience with Veeva Vault preferred.

  • Experience adhering to corporate and standard style guidelines preferred. Experience with AMA Manual of Style a plus.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Interpersonal Skills - Able to establish and build close working relationships across a highly matrixed organization and with alliance partners.  Accomplished in group, business, and social settings, respected by professional peers. Comfortable and capable in a variety of cultures and skilled in working internationally.

  • In-depth experience, knowledge, and skills in medical communications and claims management. Able to apply knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and non-standard situations.

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements, both FDA and international, regarding promotional and educational material.

  • Able to understand and comply with company policies on the creation of promotional and educational material.

  • Must be able to understand legally and technically written standards, regulations, procedures, and test methods and communicate their intent.

  • Must be able to organize, prioritize and work effectively in a constantly evolving environment.

  • Knowledge of clinical study design, technical writing, and critical literature appraisal; familiarity with scientific publications; and basic understanding of statistics.

  • Proven ability to understand, interpret and explain sophisticated clinical and scientific information.

  • Strong communication skills (verbal, presentation, and written).

  • Able to work independently with minimal guidance and determine work priorities in alignment with business objectives.

  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

  • Work thoroughly with strong attention to detail and precision.

  • Able to provide rapid turnaround to avoid creating delays for other teams that interfere with business objectives.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand or sit and to use sight, hearing, voice and hands to communicate virtually and use office equipment. The employee frequently is required to interact with other associates.

Role is fully remote with headquarters in Tempe, AZ.
